Ferrous

  • CONSTRUCTIONAL STEEL OVERSIZE
    (Ferrous : Steelworks Grade)

Otherwise known as plate and girder or OA, this grade should consist of plate and structural steel such as boiler plate, girder and angle not less than 6mm thick, tube and hollow section should not be included, anything larger than 5 x 2 (1.5m x 0.6m x 0.6m) is oversize.

  • NEW PRODUCTION STEEL CUTTINGS (8B
    (Ferrous : Steelworks Grade)

Loose light steel cuttings, suitable for pressing, may include a proportion of plated material and punchings, must be free of oil and grease inclusions, non metallics and free of oil and grease.

  • NO1 STEEL
    (Ferrous : Steelworks Grade)

Should be predominantly 6mm or thicker, most heavy steel that is not constructional steel will be traded as no1, insize material should be 5×2.

  • OVERSIZE CONSTRUCTIONAL STEEL
    (Ferrous : Steelworks Grade)

Otherwise known as plate and girder or OA, this grade should consist of plate and structural steel such as boiler plate, girder and angle not less than 6mm thick, tube and hollow section should not be included.

  • OVERSIZE NO1 STEEL
    (Ferrous : Steelworks Grade)

New production heavy steel offcuts and skeletons that have been profiled in engineering works, for our purpose it must be 10mm or thicker, must be free of coatings, paint and oil etc., must not contain very hard steel alloys unless colour coded for ID purposes, material less than 18 (45mm) will be bought at a premium.

  • STEEL SWARF/TURNINGS (7B)
    (Ferrous : Steelworks Grade)

Steel swarf, a by product of engineering machinery, this grade must be free of excessive oil and other fluids, it must not be heavily oxidised or congealed and reasonably free of other inclusions and contaminants, cast iron borings, filings and particularly iron dust from extractors must not be included, these materials generate heat and ignite easily and cause serious safety problems.
